Three parts of thinking through a custom set: understanding the design, understanding your client, and understanding your own decisions.
Understand how I think through eye shape, natural lashes, facial balance, desired effect, curl, length, direction, density, and texture before designing a set.
You’ll begin understanding why one design decision works for one client but may not work for the next.
“Natural.” “Wispy.” “Full.” “Not too dramatic.” Two clients can use the same words and imagine completely different results.
Learn to ask better questions, interpret inspiration pictures, understand the feeling your client wants to create, and guide her toward a design that makes sense for her.
The goal isn’t to memorize more maps. It’s to understand your craft deeply enough to explain why this curl, this length, this shape, this direction, and this texture.
And why you’re intentionally choosing something different for the client sitting in front of you.
